Madagascar is a country where many people face impoverished conditions. It's also a land rich in essential oil resources, and where dōTERRA sources Ylang Ylang, Ginger, Geranium, and other essential oils. Because people in this country often lack access to quality healthcare, dōTERRA's Healing Hands Foundation established a network of mobile clinics to service several villages around the Ylang Ylang harvesting cooperative, which encompasses 750-900 people.
In years past, Ylang Ylang harvesters faced unfair treatment from brokers and middlemen, forcing them to sell their product to the highest bidder, which led to an unstable market and income. However, since dōTERRA started working with these Madagascar natives to source Ylang Ylang, we have been able to purchase their oil for a fair and on-time wage, which has improved their conditions significantly. In addition, the improved wages for their superior oils have allowed them to purchase better equipment and hire more growers and harvesters, which is beneficial for everyone involved.

Eventually, we also plan to have a permanent structure as a health clinic, along with the mobile clinics, to serve the villages. In this way we are able to not only provide for the medical needs of these people, but also bring them together for botanical partnerships and other mutually beneficial opportunities to strengthen their communities and fight poverty.
